MRI-visualized PTT/CDT for breast cancer ablation and distant metastasis prevention

•A multifunctional injectable hydrogel FMPEG incorporating metallic NPs and ferroptosis inducer was developed for photo-triggered and acid-responsive precise cancer therapy.•Upon exposure to near-infrared light irradiation, FMPEG exerted a PTT effect, which further accelerated the drug release behavior from FMP nanoparticles for the cascade CDT effect at the tumor site.•The locally administrated FMPEG in the primary tumor site resulted in a sustained and long-lasting antitumor effect, attributed to the immunostimulatory properties by producing tumor-associated antigens, suppressing distant tumor and liver metastasis.
