摘要
This work develops a novel approach to monitor the electrical residual current in medical environments such as hospitals by using Fiber Optics (FO). It takes advantage of a common Residual Current Device (RCD) as a current meter but transmits the value by using FO. Here we will explain how to use lightwave system architecture. By utilizing the use of RCD to ensure the safety of electrocution and maximizing data transmission speed with the use of FO, not only protection can be achieved but also tracking of the cause of any possible leakage current. We have carried out simulations with FO lengths of up to 5 km so that they can be regressed linearly. From the results obtained, the power loss ratio is around -0.2 dBm/km from the initial optical power of 8.3068 dBm. The minimum Bit Error Ratio (BER) value obtained was only at 1.27E-10 with the default combination of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Mux and Demux in an efficient Passive Optical Network (PON) with a Bit Rate speed of 10 GHz showing the possible high speed to reach standard protection for medical devices. It can be concluded that this application can be used to monitor the residual current of medical devices compared to electrical cables which are more susceptible to magnetic induction interference.
