•CuSi and FeAl OC-filled FBR units have large bed temperature fluctuations.•All the composite OCs-filled FBR units can greatly improve CH4 conversion and CO2 selectivity.•CuNiFeMn OCs-filled FBR unit can self-regulate the bed temperature field to homogeneity.
