•The study compares conventional and microwave pyrolysis of waste date stone.•Lifecycle analysis (LCA) of conventional and microwave pyrolysis conducted using GaBi tool.•Technoeconomic analysis (TEA) of conventional and microwave pyrolysis is performed.•The GaBi results indicate conventional pyrolysis has a better LCA rating than microwave pyrolysis.•TEA demonstrates conventional pyrolysis is more lucrative than microwave pyrolysis.
