Using the Online Elicitation of Personal Utility Functions (OPUF) approach to derive a patient-based EQ-5D-5L value set: a study in 122 patients with rheumatic diseases from Germany

•Using the recently developed OPUF method, we successfully derived an EQ-5D-5L value set from a sample of 122 rheumatic disease patients from Germany.•The valuation survey was easy to implement, and the results suggest that it was feasible and acceptable to the participants.•We think OPUF is a promising new approach for eliciting health preferences from patients, which could complement standard methods, especially when sample sizes are small.
