摘要
Medicinal plants being essential source for various phytoconstituents, can be used in treatment of several ailments. These phytoconstituents differ significantly among the species. The present study was aimed to analyze the phytochemical profiling of in vitro regenerated plant parts of Solanum khasianum C.B. Clarke by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). The methanolic leaf extract (LE) contained 18 bioactive compounds, whereas stem extract (SE), root extract (RE) and callus extract (CE) contained 14, 28, 21 bioactive compounds. The major bioactive compounds uncovered by GC-MS include 2,2-Dimethylnon-5-en-3-one in S. khasianum LE; Myo-inositol, hexaacetate in SE; Ethyl α-d-glucopyranoside in RE and Sucrose in CE. These phytoconstituents were reported to have several biological activities and these findings further substantiate the traditional use and claim of S. khasianum . Furthermore, these extracts showed a potential antibacterial activity against tested bacteria.
