Optimization Scheduling and Adequacy Evaluation of Cascade Hydropower Stations Considering the Extreme Weather

With the increasing proportion of clean energy, the importance of developing cascade hydropower has grown. However, extreme drought conditions can have a detrimental impact on the optimal scheduling of cascade hydropower. Thus, this paper aims to address the influence of extreme weather by establishing a budget uncertainty set for natural water flow and load. The objective of this study is to maximize the load matching degree of cascade hydropower stations. To achieve this, an optimal operation model for cascade hydropower stations is proposed based on mixed integer linear programming (MILP). The model utilizes piecewise linearization and triangular interpolation techniques. Furthermore, an index system for generation adequacy considering both power supply and load perspectives. Sequential Monte Carlo simulation is employed for simulation purposes. The computational results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively satisfies the demand for priority loads during extreme drought conditions. Moreover, the method exhibits higher power generation adequacy compared to the independent operation of cascade hydropower stations.
