The Ultra-Wideband Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna with Diamond Shaped Parasitic Patch

The antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) with parasitic patch for ultra-wideband application is presented. To enhance the gain and radiation characteristics, the diamond shaped parasitic patch is added to the aperture of the antipodal Vivaldi antenna. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on low cost FR4 substrate. From the measured results, the proposed antenna can operate in frequency range from 4.1 to beyond 10 GHz with the maximum gain of 8.39 dBi. In addition, the proposed antenna achieves directional characteristics which is suitable for a variety of imaging applications.
