Association between psychosocial factors and co-morbid cigarette smoking and alcohol use in a population experiencing homelessness

•Psychosocial variables were associated with heaviness of smoking and alcohol consumption.•Frequency of homelessness was associated with greater anxiety scores and younger age.•Heaviness of smoking was positively correlated with social network size.•Heaviness of drinking was positively correlated with the MINI anxiety score and marijuana use.•Heaviness of drinking was associated with frequency of homelessness.
