Flux Regulation and Torque Performance Enhancement of a Hybrid Excitation Axial Flux Switching PM Motor with Different Winding Arrangements

In this paper, two hybrid excited axial flux switching permanent magnet (HEAFSPM) motors are proposed and investigated by considering the different winding arrangements which named unitary winding arrangement (UWA) and separated winding arrangement (SWA) respectively. Based on the 3D finite element method, the electromagnetic performances including flux density distribution, air gap flux density, back electromotive force, and etc. are compared, and the motor with SWA features excellent flux regulation performance. On this basis, the multiple objective optimizations are conducted to enhance the torque performance of the HEAFSPM motor with SWA. Finally, the performance of the motor before and after optimization is comprehensively evaluated and the effectiveness of the motor structure and theoretical methods is verified.
