Electric Vehicle SOC Estimation on the Roads of Large Cities Employing Traffic Co-Simulation and Real Mobility Data

Penetration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in most parts of the planet is still developing. However, the increase in the fleet can have consequences, not only for the electrical grid but also for transport and communication. From the point of view of energy planning, the typical dynamism of EV loading can impose bottlenecks, especially at the distribution level. In this sense, the battery's State of Charge (SOC) is a variable of interest and very sensitive to the driver's behavior. Thus, this work proposes to determine the SOC of EVs on the roads in large cities where electromobility simulations feed an algorithm integrated into a geographic information system. Six different scenarios are considered where heat maps and sensitivity analyses show how the proposal can be used to estimate locations likely to receive charging demand.
