•Three-dimensional theoretical model of Rb-TPAL is established, incorporating the spectra of pump and absorption with He.•Theoretical prediction regarding He pressure-induced broadening of 52S1/2 → 52D5/2 transition agrees with experimental findings.•Adding a small amount of He contributes to the output of Rb-TPAL, consistent with experimental findings.•52S1/2 → 72S1/2 transition in the Rb-TPAL has been proven to have the potential to achieve higher efficiency.
