Teleseismic Wavefield Rank Reduction-Based Reconstruction Method for Passive Source Converted Wave Reverse Time Migration Imaging

Passive source converted wave reverse time migration (RTM) has the potential ability to image complex velocity discontinuities in the crust and upper mantle with the prerequisite that the seismic stations are evenly and densely distributed at the surface. However, due to the limitations of the surface acquisition condition and equipment expenses, the distribution of the actual seismic array is not dense enough and has an irregular spacing. In this article, we adapt the multichannel singular spectrum analysis (MSSA) reconstruction method, which is widely used in exploration seismology, to reconstruct the teleseismic wavefield. Tests using synthetic data and field data demonstrate the reliability of the proposed method and the great improvement in the passive source RTM image.
