Operative treatment of chest wall injury

Recently, chest wall reconstruction has expanded beyond the old concept of dealing with underlying pulmonary contusions in the presence of rib fractures and flail chest. Current philosophies for management of chest wall injuries seek to deal with the pulmonary contusion that compromises static compliance, as well as reconstruction of the chest wall to restore dynamic compliance.
