摘要

•First AMS radiocarbon datings of Río Chico style paintings are presented.•An earlier chronology than expected was obtained.•This style persisted for ca. 2300, at least between 3120 ± 60 to 760 ± 50 14C BP.•Rock art distribution is associated with circulation paths and resource catchment areas.•Painting activity is connected to an increase in the intensity of site occupation in the region.
