Precision medicine for a case with inflammatory bowel disease in STAT1-associated immunodeficiency

Background Here we report the case of a 33-year-old patient suffering from recurring infections since childhood and Crohn’s disease (CD), which was diagnosed 5 years earlier. The patient was transferred to our tertiary care center due to recurrent fever for 2 months, cachexia (BMI 13.0) and severe gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea with blood 15 times per day). Colonoscopy revealed a peculiar inflammatory pattern in the ileum and the colon with deep punched lesions which did not fit to a diagnosis of CD.
