Lung cancer is a disease of multifactorial origin linked to extrinsic or modifiable environmental factors, tobacco, radon and others. There are other intrinsic or non-modifiable factors; age, sex, family and personal history (previous respiratory diseases, and genetic susceptibility). In the assessment of genetic susceptibility, family history of cancer has been used as a surrogate for genetic risk.
