Sacrococcygeal Teratoma

Sacrococcygeal teratomas are the commonest germ cell tumours seen in children, arising from the coccygeal region. The vast majority of these are benign and diagnosed antenatally or soon after birth. Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment, with very good overall survival outcome. Though a small percentage shows malignant changes, especially with delayed diagnosis and late presentation, with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgical resection, the overall outcome remains good in most.
