•Green synthesis of mono PtNPs, AgNPs and bimetallic Pt-AgNPs by using Naringi crenulata extract of bioactive molecules as reducing and stabilizing agent.•The irregular spherical shaped in morphology, with an average particle size of 6–22 nm.•The highest catalytic degradation efficiency are observed synthesized bimetallic Pt-AgNPs only at 98.56%.•To determination of heavy metal ions like Cu2+, Pb2+ and Mg2+in different water samples are present low LOD values to be 0.002, 0.18 and 0.001 µM.
