The use of thermal storage systems is not new; ancient civilizations already used this method for different purposes. Thus, there are documents dating from 350 years ago in Persia that emphasized the importance of ice or snow (which could be collected near lakes, rivers or mountains) for the preservation of food or cold drinks.
