Platelet-rich fibrin in the treatment of skin avulsion

This clinical case report of the treatment of a soft tissue avulsion injury in the frontal region through a surgical procedure for skin reconstruction using leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin(L-PRF) and patients’ own blood as injectable PRF(I-PRF), with a 3-year follow-up. The patient was admitted for treatment with a soft tissue wound with loss of substance in the frontal region with well-defined edges, containing different areas of depth, with visible loss of dermal layers, and exposure of adjacent connective tissue. At first, the tissue fragment was repositioned at the accident site, being afterward replaced by L-PRF membranes. One week after the initial treatment, a new procedure was performed, accommodating two more L-PRF membranes in the wound region. After 60 days, during the clinical evaluation, the total recovery of the dermal relief and subsequent reduction in the size of the lesion were noted. Subsequently, 2 sessions of I-PRF were performed in the form of intradermal therapy and microneedling. After 3 years of the initial trauma, the patient was reassessed and presented a good clinical condition and satisfaction with the result obtained by the PRF treatment. Thus, this clinical case report demonstrates that PRF has promising results in the treatment of skin avulsions.
