Epidemiology & pathophysiology of pelvic organ prolapse & urinary incontinence in women

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI) are common, detrimental conditions that affect millions of women worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of these two disorders. Epidemiological data will be based on relevant terminology, classification, prevalence, incidence, and risk factors, while discussion on the pathophysiology will focus on the anatomy, function, physiological mechanisms, and clinical diagnosis, evaluation, presentation, and interventions related to POP and UI, respectively.
