Study of structural and magnetic features of aluminum substituted hexaferrites of calcium suitable for memory storage application

Calcium hexaferrites with aluminum substitutions are made using a distinct chemical formula, CaAlxFe12-xO19(x = 0,2,4,6). The synthesized single-phase hexagonal ferrites with the space group P63/mmc 167: R-3c is confirmed by the XRD pattern. The sample exhibits rather distinct hexagonal grain-like patterns with an average particle size in the range of 26 to 36 nm, according to the XRD data. The morphological studies were carried out by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The saturation magnetization (Ms), remanence (Mr), and coercivity (Hc) were found to decrease with increasing aluminum substitution, which is attributed to aluminum ions occupying sub-lattice spin-up and spin-down sites. The prepared ferrites have a higher signal-to-noise ratio because the particle size is less than 50 nm; magnetic properties of the samples changes with Al3+ concentrations make the material suitable for memory applications.
