Funding approaches

An increasing emphasis has been placed on the understanding and production of scientific research throughout medical training. As such, the quality and quantity of sports medicine research have increased in recent years. Alongside this increase in research output, opportunities for funding have grown in both abundance and competitiveness. Public institutions, private institutions, and other sources all offer grants to fund research that seeks to address a goal or question set by the funding institution. This chapter will provide a discussion of the different sources of funding as well as a description of a grant proposal and actions that a research group can take to add strength to their grant proposal before submission.
