摘要
Community engagement and involvement is an emerging concept in securing sustainable and beneficial ocean-human interaction. To provide the baseline literature for this concept in the Ocean and Human Health framework, this chapter explores the different typologies of coastal communities and provides insights on how important it is to recognize the capacity of communities to contribute toward Ocean and Human Health. The chapter summarizes the considerations necessary for empowerment and research-based cocreation, and reviews different models, tools, and interdisciplinary approaches in working with communities. It showcases Ocean and Human Health-based community engagement case studies, and shares research and advocacy experiences from academic institutions, communicators, youth groups, government agencies, and nongovernment organizations from across the world.
