摘要
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States. The increasing rates of several cardiovascular risk factors including obesity, sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle may play a role in the rise in maternal mortality observed in the United States. Maternal risk factors for cardiovascular disease are also associated with increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. For women pursuing pregnancy, addressing these risk factors by screening and treating early may mitigate both peripartum maternal and fetal risks.
