Methods for Text Generation in NLP

Chapter 2 presents an overview of generative language modelling approaches, specifically relating to applications in the space of social media. It seeks to assess the potential dangers of increasingly more “effective” generative methods, as measured by how easy it is to distinguish the text generated from human-written texts. In light of the myriad of potential dangers relating to machine-generated text that is more and more humanlike, an overview of existing detection methods is presented, and the limitations of these detection methods are examined.
