摘要
Neuroinflammation is a pathological hallmark of many neurological disorders. It is a combination of two words, “neuro” which represents brain cells and “inflammation” which is a defense mechanism of protective feedback. Clinacanthus nutans (Burm. f.) Lindau (CN) is listed as one of the focused herbal plants under Malaysia's National Key Economic Area (2010) and Ministry of Agriculture due to some of its well documented therapeutic potentials. Thus, its antineuroinflammatory activities elucidated via the metabolomic approach are worthwhile to be discussed. Metabolomics has been proven to be a successful method in enlightening the elucidation of the complex interplay between metabolite profiles of chemical intervention and inflammatory mediators such as in the serum and brain tissue of rats. It also reliable to reveal the correlation between central neuroinflammation, physiological disturbance, and systemic metabolic within an organism. Hence, herein, a comprehensive view of the CN aqueous extract (CNAE) as a potential antineuroinflammatory agent is presented.
