摘要
The gut microbiota constitutes a key factor on host metabolic functions with its unique and diverse composition. The gut microbiome regularizes host defenses against viral infections. Furthermore, the microbiome imbalance and dysbiosis are known to give rise to inflammation and immune imbalances in COVID-19 patients on different levels. It is scientifically possible to administer gut microbial fingerprint in COVID-19 patients as a potentially diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic marker. The gut-lung axis has an essential role in COVID-19, and it is scientifically acknowledged that the gut has a repercussion on the lungs through the gut-lung axis. Additionally, the gut-brain axis is considered to be vital in the neurologic symptoms in COVID-19, and microbiome modulation leads to prescription of personalized medicine with individualized nutrition and specific probiotics to modify gut dysbiosis. The gut microbiome secrets seem to change the therapeutic approaches, bearing in mind gut-origin concept.
