摘要
This study aims to evaluate the hypothesis that the spiral arteries remodelling persists to some extent in consecutive pregnancies. Data from pregnant women in the first trimester scan of the first and second pregnancy were obtained. The pulsatility index of the uterine arteries (UtA PI) were estimated and transformed into multiples of median (MoMs). The UtA PI MoMs of women in the first pregnancy was compared to those in the second pregnancy, using t-test. Moreover, the correlation between the interpregnancy interval and the UtA PI MoMs in the second pregnancy was investigated using a linear regression model. 920 women included in the analysis. The mean UtA PI MoMs was 1.20 ± 0.29 and 1.13 ± 0.30 in the first and second pregnancy respectively (p < 0.001; 95% CI 0.03-0.10). There was a positive correlation between the interpregnancy interval and the UtA PI MoM in the second pregnancy (b = 0.004; 95% CI 0.002 – 0.005). The remodelling effect of the maternal spiral arteries during the first trimester of the first pregnancy continues in the consecutive pregnancy. However, as the time interval between the two pregnancies increases, the effect of the first pregnancy attenuates.
