•Body Fat Mass, Percent Body Fat, and BMI were correlated with FOF and poor balance.•BMI and Body Fat Mass were associated with a discrepancy between FOF and balance.•Body composition analysis help identify community-dwelling older adults with frailty and high fall risk.
