Control Application to a Heating System Used in an Auditorium with Complex Topology

This work presents an application of a power system and a heating energy control system in an auditorium with a complex net of surfaces. In the winter season, the heating energy is calculated and the occupants’ thermal comfort is evaluated applying the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index. The control of the heating energy system is founded on PMV index. This index depends on a set of environmental variables, such as mean air temperature, mean air velocity, mean relative humidity and mean radiant temperature, and personal variables, such as clothing insulation characteristics and level of physical activity. The building thermal modeling software, which evaluates, in transitory regime, the thermal behavior of the building as well as and the interior environmental comfort conditions is used in the numerical simulation. The 350 building main bodies of the auditorium and the 140 occupants are considered in the simulation done for obtaining the thermal response of the auditorium. By using the control system, thermal comfort is improved to an acceptable level according to the standards.
