Simon Shorvon has a long-standing interest in historical aspects of medicine and in bibliographic studies, as well as wider publishing and editing experience. He has served as Harveian Librarian at the Royal College of Physicians and published a few volumes including a history of the International League Against Epilepsy and a history of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and its Institute of Neurology in London. Almost 10 years ago, he published a history of epilepsy with Dieter Schmitz. Therefore, this volume does not come as a surprise. However, this is more than a simple narrative history of the scientific and medical achievements in the field of epilepsy.
