Application of Artificial Intelligence in Modeling of Methanol Production From Renewable Sources

Methanol is a key product in the chemical industry. However, due to the ongoing concern about climate change, there is a growing interest in finding new ways of producing and utilizing renewable methanol. Renewable methanol can be made from sustainable biomass or a combination of carbon dioxide and hydrogen from renewable electricity sources. Nevertheless, biomass-based energy products face limitations due to various challenges, including feedstock variability, economic feasibility, and supply chain reliability. In recent years, the emerging field of artificial intelligence (AI) has been utilized to tackle these challenges associated with bioenergy systems. AI advances such as machine learning are promising tools for biomass-to-liquid conversion pathways. This chapter highlights the applications of AI in bioenergy systems with the aim of providing empirical evidence and practices used in AI modeling for biomethanol production from several renewable sources.
