In Chap. 3 , we encountered a first example of a macroscopic property that can be expressed through an integral over the vibrational density of states (VDOS), i.e., the viscoelastic moduli. The thermal properties of solids, the most important of which are the specific heat and the thermal conductivity, can also be written in terms of integrals over the VDOS, as we shall see in this chapter.
