Preparing Veterinarians to Practice Across the Spectrum of Care

All veterinarians need to practice across a spectrum of care (SoC), and it is essential that our veterinary students are trained to provide care options that consider factors relating to each patient, client, veterinarian, and practice. This article discusses the role of different clinical settings in workplace-based training and highlights the importance of a collaborative approach to optimize students’ preparedness for practice. The authors then use a “bricks and mortar” analogy to describe the emerging pedagogy around SoC.
