Curriculum mapping: Pathways to improve program coherence

Curriculum mapping can help address assessment at a program level, providing informative diagnostics, as well as implied guidance, on how departments might prioritize curricular initiatives. What are curriculum maps? In short, at a programmatic level they offer visual displays that reveal what is taught, how often it is taught, and at what depth. This chapter outlines the process of curriculum mapping and guides readers to the Curriculum Mapping Toolkit for Sociology (CMTS), an accessible and publicly available resource that is designed to facilitate collaborative decision-making processes at the department level.
