Biodefense Vaccines, Vaccines for Emerging Infectious Diseases, and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)

摘要
This chapter reviews vaccines in development for military and “For Public” emerging infectious diseases. Some of the vaccines were part of the USAMRIID Special Immunizations Program (SIP).The SIP will formally close during 2023 and final reports will be sent to the Food and Drug Administration. The SIP Program was successful at vaccinating laboratorians against certain highly infectious diseases when PPE and engineering technology were not optimal. There are no reports of occupational infectious diseases in individuals provided these vaccines in addition to the PPE in use at the time. Some believe the improvements in PPE and engineering technology over recent years have made the continued use of these 1–4 1–10 1–4 vaccines obsolete in some laboratory settings. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is an international program that aims to develop vaccines against emerging infectious diseases across the globe. Forward looking, some of the emerging infectious diseases for which “For Public” vaccines are being developed by CEPI were part of the armamentarium of diseases for which vaccines were developed by the USAMRIID SIP program. This chapter merges discussions on vaccines developed and being developed by these programs.
