Characterization and complete genome analysis of a novel Escherichia phage, vB_EcoM-RPN187

vB_EcoM-RPN187, a novel Escherichia phage, was isolated from drained water using Escherichia coli M187 as host. It has a prolate icosahedral head and a contractile tail. The phage produced clear plaques and was highly effective at 20–37°C. It was stable at 4–70°C and pH 3–10 for at least 1 h. The genetic analysis revealed that vB_EcoM-RPN187 has a 167,158 bp linear double-stranded DNA consisting of 265 protein-encoding genes and 10 tRNAs without undesirable genes. The overall nucleotide identity result suggested that the vB_EcoM-RPN187 may be classified as a new phage species in the genus Mosigvirus .
