摘要
Metallic glasses are a prospective class of alloys suitable for use as structural biomaterials. This chapter explores their unique properties, highlighting their benefits and limitations relative to conventional alloys currently used. Some of these properties include their improved elastic limits, higher strengths, and ease of formability. Limitations remain present, with structural and mechanistic models undergoing continual revision as the field develops its understanding and predictions of their formation and mechanical behavior. A review of the current state of metallic glass research for use as biomaterials is also reported herein, with Zr, Ti, Fe, and degradable Mg, Zn, Ca-based metallic glasses cited as the primary fields of research.
