Management of large intrabony odontogenic cysts with papery thin cortex

Intrabony cysts of maxilla and mandible are not uncommon. Some times the cysts grow to such an extent that the cortex becomes papery thin and present with the clinical finding of eggshell crackling. While treating such cysts, the buccal cortex is sacrificed to gain access to the cavity. Here we describe our own technique which not only preserves the thin cortex but leads to reduction of bone cavity and proceeds for uncomplicated primary healing.
