Aspiration biopsy versus dilation and curettage in the diagnosis of endometrial cancer and endometrial hyperplasia prior to hysterectomy

Several endometrial sampling methods exist for the diagnosis of endometrial cancer (EC) and endometrial hyperplasia. Traditionally, the gold standard for diagnosis has been the use of dilation and curettage (D&C). However, this method has become less favorable due to the ease of use, safety, and convenience of outpatient aspiration biopsy (AB). The literature is conflicted when comparing the diagnostic accuracy of D&C and AB. We aimed to compare the use of AB to D&C in premenopausal and postmenopausal women by assessing the samples that were upgraded to endometrial cancer by each method.
