Solidification Characteristics and Microstructure Evolutions of RE2Fe14B(RE=Ce, Y, La)Alloys

The escalation of PrNd costs presents an opportunity for high-abundant and inexpensive Ce-based magnets since the price of Ce is only one thirtieth of PrNd' s. The high-abundant Ce-based magnets have attracted extensive attention from both academia and industry. However, the magnetic properties of PrNd-Lean Ce-based magnets are still far from their theoretical values due to a deteriorated microstructure. In this article, the solidification behaviors, phase composition characteristics, and phase transformation temperatures of RE2Fe14B (RE= Ce, Y, La) alloys were studied and compared with those of Nd2Fe14B. The main phase reactions of RE2Fe14B (RE = Ce, Y, La) alloys are summarized. It maybe lay a foundation for the development of high abundant rare earth magnets.
