Twice-exceptionality: new perspectives for research

The main aim of this chapter is to provide researchers with an overview of ethical considerations to be made prior to using animals in science (such as neuroscience and behavioral research). These are discussed in the context of the animal ethics review and oversight infrastructure that is required at most institutions to ensure that animals are used in an ethical manner and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. Another aim is to have the chapter serve as a practical guide as to what details are to be determined and provided to ethics committees for review and approval.
