Dating violence

Dating violence is a serious social and public health problem. This article summarizes the existing literature on adolescent dating violence. Definitions of dating violence and measurement issues are discussed, followed by an overview of the prevalence of dating violence and the development of dating violence across adolescence. The consequences of and risk factors for dating violence are reviewed, along with relevant theoretical perspectives. Attention is also paid to emerging research on cyber dating abuse and the impacts of COVID-19 on dating violence. Finally, issues related to the prevention of dating violence and directions for future research are addressed.
