•Direct conversion of methane and carbon dioxide not controlled by reforming reaction.•Oxygenated derivatives as main products by a purely heterogeneous catalysis process.•Cumulative productivities (acetone + dimethyl ether) reached above 260 mmol gcat-1h−1.•Dimethyl ether appears as secondary product formed via the acetone primary product.•Multiphasic nanocatalyst active and selective at low temperature bellow ambient pressure.
