Open-Source Virtual Reality and 3D-Printable Models for Skull Base Triangle Neuroanatomy Education

Background: Numerous strategies have been employed to render skull base neuroanatomy more comprehensible to trainees, including various systems of anatomical triangles. In most circumstances, the triangles are defined in a standardized fashion using highly conserved anatomical structures, such as the relationships between cranial nerves, major intracranial arteries, and the bony skull base itself. Common resources used by trainees in attempting to master the triangles include textbooks, journal articles, and cadaveric dissection guides; however, no educationally oriented 3D model of the skull base triangles has been developed or tested in this regard.
