摘要
Material and Methods: Sixty AD patients and 52 VaD patients who were diagnosed according to international criteria and 61 control cases whose ages and sexes were compatible in general were taken to the study. Serum lipid profiles and fat soluble vitamin levels (vitamin D and vitamin K) were studied. Results: Serum vitamin D values at the AD and VaD patient groups was found significantly lower than the control group (p = 0.001). No significant difference was determined with vitamin K values. When the lipid profiles of the groups were analyzed, total cholesterol values were determined significantly higher at the two patient groups than the control group (p = 0.001). Moreover, a significantly negative relationship between total cholesterol and vitamin D was observed at the control group (p < 0.005). No relationship in patient groups for vitamin D and in all groups for vitamin K was found. No difference between the patient groups and control groups in terms of high density lipoprotein, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein values was found. Conclusion: This study is showed that Vitamin D deficiency and high total cholesterol are associated with AD and VaD disease. There is no difference between these two dementia types in terms of these parameters. Moreover, the inverse relation determined between vitamin D and total cholesterol at healthy control cases is not observed at the dementia patients. All these suggests that a detailed analysis of the relation between vitamin D and total cholesterol and dementia will be useful. Keywords: Alzheimer; Vascular Dementia; Vitamin D; K; Lipids.
