)Preparation and characterization of solvent-responsive P(St-BA-AA)polymer microspheres

The P(St-BA-AA) polymer microspheres were successfully prepared by emulsion polymerization method using styrene and butyl acrylate as the main monomer, acrylic acid as the functional monomer. The morphologies of microspheres were characterized with transmission electron microscope(TEM). The effects of the amount of emulsifier and functional monomer on the average particle size of latex particles and the emulsion viscosity were investigated.The solvatochromic-responsive properties of P(St-BA-AA) latex film were also explored. The results showed that the microspheres had typical core-shell morphology and average particle size of 109.1~249.8 nm, and the emulsion viscosity was 5.271~11.113 mPa·s. The latex film has color responsiveness to water, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and ethylene glycol,and hasn't color responsiveness to hydrocarbons, ethers, tones, chloroform and tetrahydrofuran.
