Abstract #1606680: Treatment of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus With Metformin is Associated With Increased Risk of Preeclampsia and Polyhydramnios Compared With Diet Modification Alone: A Multivariate Cohort Analysis

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which complicates over 1 in 5 pregnancies in Qatar, is becoming an increasingly concerning matter of public health. Metformin is currently recommended by various guidelines as the first-line medical management of GDM. However, the effect of metformin on maternal and neonatal outcomes remains unclear with variable results across populations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between metformin use and adverse outcomes in GDM patients in a high-risk population.
